The New Cupcake – DonutsTweet to @mechant_mangeur It’s not the biggest secret, but to some it’s still a mystery. How do cupcakes move slightly off the spotlight while donuts take a little of the stage? They just taste better if you ask me! Along with kale and sriacha, donuts found a place within our evolving food culture trends list for 2013. With that being said, I did some donut research and reported back to Global TV’s Morning News. Camille from Global and I talked about decadent and unique donuts in Montreal. We tasted a few dough-balls from Mr.Puffs too (addictive!). You can watch the fun video of our live segment below. A lot of them are the same, but with different names.
After doing some extensive and toilsome research, here are my top donuts shops in Montreal.
Léché Desserts – Probably the best donut I ever had in my life. Not that I’ve had so many, but these gourmet donuts definitely take the cake! Cafe Sardine – A beautiful rustic cafe on Fairmont, their classic donuts are soft, fresh and amazingly perfect with a cappuccino. Saint Donut – Found only in a few cafes and Le Gros Jambon in the old port. Eclectic flavours to a classic style of making donuts. Chez Boris – They really push donut etiquette to another level by creating sandwiches with savoury ingredients. I can hear Hommer salivating. Mr.Puffs – Dough-puffs to be exact but who gives a shit. These loukoumades balls are from heaven. I promise!
